MIGRATION OF THE BIRDS

…“Armed”, as usual, with reflex, camera and wearing camouflage, I walk along the river bank, which in this period is in full flow. It is a late Spring morning, my objective is to reach an old quarry of “tufo” on the other side of the river where on one the faces of the quarry a kestrel is trying to nest and to follow their endeavours. SWIFT IN FLIGHT

The first photograph we will analyze is that of the swift (Apus apus) in flight taken with the so-called roving technique. The image was not easy to capture due to the speeds this bird is able to achieve in flight. In this particular shot, the aerodynamic silhoutte and structure of the long wings, that are sickle shaped, enable him to fly with the minimum resistance. I am very taken by this kind of photography which makes it possible to record their daily activities and flying skills. Read All
