Behind the image

The first photograph we will analyze is that of the swift (Apus apus) in flight taken with the so-called roving technique. The image was not easy to capture due to the speeds this bird is able to achieve in flight. In this particular shot, the aerodynamic silhoutte and structure of the long wings, that are sickle shaped, enable him to fly with the minimum resistance. I am very taken by this kind of photography which makes it possible to record their daily activities and flying skills. To follow the flight of this incredible winged creature one must have a lot of patience, be steadfast and be fit to support the photographic equipment and to keep the viewfinder steady to follow the incredible evolution and sudden changes in the flight direction that can disarm even the most willing and keen photographer.
